THE AGRICULTURAL MARKETSINVESTMENT AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (PIDMA)The Agricultural Markets Investment and Development Project is a joint initiative of the World Bank and the Cameroonian Government with a vision for the improvement of productivity and competitiveness of the value chains of maize, cassava and sorghum, and the increase in produc- tion in order to meet the demand in local materials expressed by the agro-business industries.The PIDMA will be intervening in all segments of the value chains. In so doing, it will strengthen the functional relations between production, pro- cessing and market development. The Government of Cameroon began preparing the project since March 2013, in collaboration with the World Bank and partners concerned. Therefore, it is expected of the project to contri- bute to the improvement of food security and meet quantitative and qualitative demands in agricultural products of private agri-business (agribusinesses, small and medium-sized enter- prises/industries, wholesalers, etc.).The Development Objective of the Project was to increase the supply and added value of cassava, maize and sorghum by-products stemming from the beneficiaries which are agricultural farms, cooperatives and small and medium-sized agri- cultural enterprises. Specifically, this will involve:• Promoting a mechanism of direct and lasting "Economic Partnership" between producer organizations (POs) and buyers, mainly the agri-business private sector to improve their market access;Cameroonian agriculture has numerous assets• Funding OP sub-projects to improve producers access to more efficient agricultural technologies, to quality inputs and basic public infrastructures;• Improving the Ops access and of their mem- bers to rural funding.The 4-year duration project is made up of the fol- lowing three components:n Component 1: Support to production, proces- sing and marketing;n Component 2: Capacity-building and institu- tional support to public departments;n Component 3: Project coordination and management.MULTIPLE TRAININGThe Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER) equally set up here and there across the country, a number of training institutions in agri- culture business, still for the interest of young peo- ple. Thus, there are many regional agricultural secondary schools, technical schools of agriculture, schools for the training of cooperation specialists, Community development specialists, and equip- ment and rural development specialists.In two years, these institutions train senior techni- cians in agro-pas- toral entrepreneurship, in agro- pastoral development council, infrastructure, rural equipment and water management.These jobs offered to young people are part of a political will repeatedly affirmed by the leadership Cameroonian Government to interest youth, the spearhead of the Nation, in the earth trades nLES ATOUTS ECONOMIQUES DU CAMEROUN223
