234LES ATOUTS ECONOMIQUES DU CAMEROUNMinistry of Environment,Nature Conservation and Sustainable DevelopmentThe Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development is responsible for the development and implementation of Government policy in environment and nature protection...ENVIRONMENT FOR DEVELOPMENTA preserved environment for a sure develop- ment seems to be the leitmotif of the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), which appears as a valuable tool as Cameroon heads to emergence. Its importance in this pro- cess which the authorities want to make an absolute success of can better be valued with regard to its missions. Thus the MINEPDED is responsible for:o The definition of terms and principles of ratio- nal and sustainable management of natural resources;o The definition of environmental management measures in conjunction with the ministries concerned and specialized agencies;o The development of sectorial master plans of environmental protection, in conjunction with the departments concerned;o The Coordination and monitoring of activities of regional and international cooperation agencies for environment and nature, in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the concerned administrations;o The monitoring of environmental compliance in the implementation of major projects;o The public information to raise its participation in the management, protection and restoration of the environment and nature;o The negotiation of international agreements and conventions on the protection of the environment and nature and their implementation in conjunction with the Ministry of External Relations.COMBATTING DESERTIFICATIONDuring the past year 2015, the Ministry conduc- ted important actions, including deploying signifi- cant efforts for the preservation of the environment. We can remember, among other things, planting trees to fight against desert encroachment, and Cameroon's active participation in the Conference of Parties to the UN Convention on the fight against desertification. Moreover, the MINEPDED led a harsh struggle against the harmful effects of climate change and against pollution, but also against the harmful and toxic chemical substances, harmful and / or dangerous, with particular emphasis on the fight against plastic packaging. The fight for the preservation and sustainable management of biodiversity and promotion of sustainable development of economic, social and cultural projects were also part of the daily activities of this Ministry entrusted with highly stra- tegic missions. Still to add to the balance sheet for the year 2015, we cannot forget to mention the participation at a high level of Cameroon, led by the President of the Republic to the CoP 21 held in Paris.MINEPDED has to work tirelessly for Cameroon to take advantage of the mechanisms and other initiatives derived from them. Especially that for the year 2016, the Head of State called for more hard work for a healthy environment and sustainable development. The actions will take place in the wake of decisions taken in the pre- vious year, especially internationally. It must for example be recalled that on the 25th of September 2015, on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations, 193 World leaders pledged to achieve 17 global goals for 3 achievements over the next 15 years, namely:o Ending extreme poverty;o Fighting against inequality and injustice; o Fighting climate change.
