Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER) is responsible for the development and implementation of Government’s policy in these areas. Its objectives of primary importance contribute to Cameroon’s progress towards Emergence by 2035...
CAMEROON’S POTENTIALITIES IN THE FIELD OF AGRICULTURE
Agriculture occupies a prominent place in the Cameroonian economy for it has a major part in the GDP and a strong employability of nearly 70% of the active population. However, a diag- nosis of the sector shows that despite its undenia- ble potential, Cameroon has great agricultural potential whose productivity remains below the real opportunities. Thus, the Government has implemented a development strategy geared to improving yields, the competitiveness of the sec- tors and their diversities, and in particular that of the agricultural transformation developed below.
AGRICULTURAL PROCESSING: THE FIRST FRUIT
The sector of processing and distribution of agri- cultural and food products is an essential indus- trial sector whose activity involves the entire society. The sector, which has always been very important in human activities, has taken an indus- trial dimension over the last two decades. The economic importance is gained, thanks to the development of specific technologies that make it possible to valorize, at best, the products of Agriculture. The processing chain, from agricultu- ral products to commercial products in retail shelves has characteristics that distinguish it from other industries.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has to its credit many instruments that establish the foundations of a new era of the Cameroonian Agriculture. Projects and pro- grams, some of which are new, enter a basket of many others, but with the innovation of a solid basis towards the transformation sector. The chal- lenge of second-generation agriculture as prescri- bed by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA is therefore based on this new configuration.
Below, a spotlight on some actors whose activi- ties extend to transformation. From technical
assistance and multifaceted support to the pro- duction and processing of certain basic consu- mer foodstuffs such as cotton derived products, rice, sorghum and maize.
Cameroonian agriculture has major instruments whose products contribute to the emergence of national economy. Some shots.
