production. In addition, a project to promote aquaculture in CEMAC zone, led by the Meat and Fish Resources Commission (CEBEVIRHA), will start in Cameroon and will cover the regions of Adamaoua, Centre, the South and East.
THE CONTRIBUTION OF DAMS
From another point of view, the impoundment of the Mekin, LomPangar and Memve'ele
hydroelectric dams will further widen the pro- duction potential of capture fisheries. The Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries sets the first milestones for the deve- lopment of sustainable aquaculture which has significant margins of progress, especially since Cameroon is located in the Congo Basin, one of the largest in the world. The reduction of fish imports will be gradual admittedly in view with the efforts made to produce locally.
