AN ENRICHED HEALTH MAP
Spurred on by the Cameroonian Head of State, the national health system has under- gone profound changes, in the implementa- tion of the national health policy and in the training of health personnel. At the same time, the provision of medical care and services has seen noticeable improvements in both the infrastructure and the equipping of the health facilities - particularly through the upgrading of technical platforms.
Cameroon’s health map currently has 201 health districts. Now, a health centre covers averagely 5650 inhabitants, divided accor- ding to the categories of the health pyramid. The public sector has 2387 hospitals, which include: 7 first-category general hospitals, 8 second-category central hospitals, 14 third-
category regional hospitals, 189 fourth-cate- gory district hospitals, 234 district medical centres (5th category) and 1981 integrated health centres (6th category).
At the same time, several far-reaching actions continue to be carried out within the framework of the health intervention areas that are the fight against diseases; health promotion; case management, governance and institutional sup- port. Many developments can be made on these points.
