                  Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family

The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF) is an emanation of the New Deal policy. Actually, since the acces- sion of His Excellency Paul Biya to the Supreme Office on November 6, 1982, five Decrees have been necessary to delineate the contours of MINPROFF and missions assigned to her. These are:
• Decree N° 84/29 on 24 February 1984 organizing the Government establishing the Ministry of Women's Affairs;
• Decree N° 88/1281 on 22 September 1988 organizing the Government, and creating the Ministry of Social Affairs and Women’s Status;
• Decree N° 97/205 on 7 December 1997 organizing the Government, which recreates the Ministry of Women's Affairs;
• Decree N° 2004/320 on 8 December 2004 organizing of the Government which creates the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family;
• Decree N° 2011/408 on 9 December 2011 organization the Government which reorganizes the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family while assigning her new tasks.
TASKS OF IMPORTANCE
To date, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family is mainly responsible for the deve- lopment, implementation and assessment of government’s initiatives on the promotion and res- pect of Women’s rights, and the protection of the Family. This includes:
• Improving the legal status of women;
• The integration of women into formal economic
circuits;
• The elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and the guarantee of equal rights in all areas of activity;
• The promotion and protection of the Family, as well as the promotion and protection of the rights of the Child.
These are the five tags, five pillars, through which passes the guideline underpinning the action and achievements of Ministry of Women’s and the Family (MINPROFF).
SOME CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENTS
The action and achievements of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family are deployed through two of the three programmes on its roadmap, that is to say: Family Development and the Promotion of Women and Gender.
FAMILY DEVELOPMENT
